Adding new pages to menus

The easiest way to add a new page to one of your menus is to use the Add new page to menu form which appears on the pages page. This is pictured in the side bar. Its use should be fairly self explanatory.

Another easy way is to go to the menus page and click on the icon for the menu to which you want to add the page. This will add a new page with a boring default name at the bottom of the menu.

Either method will take you to a page where you can edit the settings for your new page. The settings appear in the page settings table like the one shown in the inset. The important things to set are:

  • The Menu Name, which is the name that will actually appear in the menu.
  • The Page Level, which controls who can see the page. You can't set the page level to be any higher than your own access level.
If you think you might want to create internal links to your new page, you might also want to set the internal name for the page.

Depending on how your site is set up, here might also be a form on the pages page for adding a new page to a menu.

Hiding (and revealing) pages

If you want to remove a page from your site, the easiest and least scary thing to do is hide it. That way, you can bring it back at any time. You can hide a page in two ways:

  1. Go to the page itself, click on the click on the icon for the Visible entry in the page settings table.
  2.  Go to the Pages page and click on the icon for the Visible column entry for the page.
When you want to bring an undead page back, you obviously can't go to the page itself and use the page settings page, so you need to go to the Pages page and click on the icon for the Visible column entry for the page.

Ordering the pages in your menus

You can control the order in which pages appear within a submenu (or the order of the public pages), from the the menus page using the icons. If you want to do a major reorganisation of a sub menu, it is easier to go to the menu editing page for the paticular menu. You get to this page by clicking the icon for the menu. The  icon for each item just moves the item up by one place, switching it with the item above. It can be proven mathematically that you can achive any desired ordering by making such switches.

Non menu pages

Many pages in the BanksyMS system do not appear in any sub-menus. These are created by clicking the icon in the main table in the Pages page. Unless you know how to use such pages, there is no point creating them. Their use is a rather advanced topic.
